Thomson Screening was spun-out from City, University of London in 2013. Since then, it’s grown steadily. We develop and market the range of SchoolScreener® software. The company has also developed variants for Occupational Health under the brand name WorkScreener®.

Worldwide, our software has been used to manage over 2,000,000 screenings. In our UK home market, our software’s used by businesses, care homes, schools and the NHS and other providers of Healthy Child Programmes, commissioned by public health.

Professor David Thomson

Director of Product Development & Clinical Lead: Optometry

Professor Thomson has spent most of his professional life at City, University of London. He lectured in Clinical Optometry and Visual Perception before becoming Head of Department.

In the 1990’s he recognised the potential of emerging computer and display technology for vision assessment and screening. He started to develop software to exploit the new technology. The first programme was launched in 1992. From these humble beginnings, his software is now used in thousands of clinics and schools worldwide. He started developing software for vision screening in schools over ten years ago. The current version reflects his years of experience in this field. He continues to lead the product development in the company while lecturing widely in the UK and overseas.

In November 2016, Professor Thomson was elected a Life Fellow of The College of Optometrists for his outstanding contribution to the profession.

Sebastian Hendricks

Medical Director: Hearing

Sebastian is a Consultant in Paediatric Audiovestibular Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS FT, Sight and Sound Centre.

He has an MSc in Audiovestibular Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians as well as the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health. Sebastian has a dual accreditation as a specialist in paediatrics and in audiovestibular medicine, the discipline specialised in hearing and balance problems. As chair of the paediatric section of the British Society of Audiology, he was a member of its council and a trustee of the Society. Also, Sebastian was a member of and held various positions in the British Association of Audiovestibular Physicians.

Additionally, he is chair of the joint quality committee of the clinical commissioning groups in Northamptonshire, NHS Corby CCG and NHS Nene CCG. He’s also a governing body member of NHS Corby CCG.

Michael Ter-Berg

Chief Executive Officer

Michael was CEO of the Map of Medicine (UCL and The Royal Free Hospital), a clinical knowledge application used in UK hospitals and primary care. Also, he’s Chairman of Virtual Tutor NurseEXCEL, clinical governance software for hospitals from City, University of London.

Michael’s previous experience includes managing and investing in healthcare, global education services and information software businesses. He has an MSc and Sloan Fellowship from London Business School. He chaired the Commercial Board and is a member of the Enterprise Board at the University of Liverpool.

Marta Kalas

Executive Director

Marta was formerly responsible for operations at Thomson Screening and remains on the board as a Non-Executive Director.

Dr. Tim Cooke

Chairman

Tim Cooke, our Non-Executive Chairman, has held senior positions in media, software and IT services companies, throughout his working life. He has a Chemistry MA and DPhil from Oxford University and an MTech from Brunel University.

An early employee of Logica, Tim held numerous senior management positions in the UK and overseas. He was later Managing Director of Oxford Molecular Group plc and floated this software based drug design and genomics company. Also, Tim floated Intelligent Environments plc, the London stock market’s first internet company. Additionally, he was a founder director of Anson Medical Plc, the medical device company.

Tim holds a portfolio of Non-Executive Chairmanships and Directorships and is currently Chairman of Six to Start Ltd and Clarinet Ltd. Finally, Tim is a Venture Partner to NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. As such, he’s a leading investor in early stage technology companies.
